Course Map & Details

The Half Marathon starts and ends in famous Zuma Beach, Malibu offering participants a beautiful out-and-back route along the pristine Malibu coastline. From the starting line, the course proceeds on Westwards Beach Rd and then turns left on Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) passing Zuma Beach, one of the most distinctive landmarks on PCH and a cinematic backdrop for numerous films and TV commercials. After making the turnaround, just north of San Nicolas Canyon, runners head back down the coast to the finish line. The Half Marathon course is USATF-certified and participants will have 4+ hours to complete their race, i.e. 18 minutes-per-mile pace for the Half-Marathon. Due to the out and back nature of the course (what goes up also goes down), the total elevation ascension is 330 feet, which makes it perfect for anyone looking to attempt a personal record — or just looking for a gorgeous, well-organized event. There will be 6 aid stations along the course:

  • Water stations will be located every mile
  • Electrolyte drink provided by Gatorade will be at miles: 6/7, 4/9, 2/11, 1/12
  • Energy gels will be provided by Honey Stinger and located at mile 6/7
  • Basic First AID will be available at the all water stations
  • First AID will be available at the miles 3

Start Corrals

Participants in the half marathon will be able to choose their corral during the registration process based on your expected finish times. On race morning imply line up BEHIND the signs and wait for your wave to start. There will be signage indicating the beginning of the waves zone. Waves will start in 2 minute intervals.

Course Coling Time

All participants are expected to be able to complete the Half Marathon course in 4 hours, i.e. 18 minutes-per-mile. The time count begins after the start of the last wave of runners. Runners/Walkers who are unable to maintain a 18-minute pace, although encouraged to complete the race, will be asked to remain out of previously-closed traffic lanes and obey regular traffic laws. The Highway will be reopened to traffic on a “rolling basis” determined by that pace. The Finish Line will stay open for runners and spectators until 12:00 PM.
Aid stations, official finishing times, commemorative medals, and post-race refreshments will only be available to runners who maintain a 18 minutes-per-mile pace or below.

Cancellation Policy

Per the marathon running industry policy, all entry fees are non-refundable. This policy applies to all entrants and is in effect whether you are injured, have an unexpected family/business emergency, have a medical emergency, etc. If the course has to be changed or the race cancelled due to an act of nature, there are no refunds or rollovers. There are NO exceptions. However, if you follow our rollover guidelines, (see FAQ), we will allow you to roll over your entry to the 2019 event or transfer your entry to another person for an extra fee. Roll over entries are only valid if all guidelines are met and only for the next year's event, i.e 2019 to 2020.
